Experiencing History: The Bodo Aboriginal Historical Archaeological Site:

Critical Challenges (Inquiry Units) explore one of Alberta's largest Aboriginal historical archaeological sites to bring history to life through meaningful learning experiences for students.

Grade 4
4-1. Cross Grade Critical Challenge: Critique the archaeological point of view of a display at the Bodo Interpretive Centre that shows how people may have lived in the past.

4-2. Critical Challenge: As an archaeologist, select three artifacts to use to create a museum exhibit about the significance of the artifacts found at the Bodo archaeological site.


4-3. Critical Challenge: Create a model commemorative sign to highlight the spirit of cooperation behind the Bodo archaeological site.

4-4. Critical Challenge: Create a display for young children to help them understand how the land in the Bodo area has been important to Aboriginal peoples over time.

Grade 5
5-1 Cross Grade Critical Challenge: Critique the archaeological point of view of a display at the Bodo Interpretive Centre that shows how people may have lived in the past.

5-2. Critical Challenge: Create and follow a personal action plan to promote or protect the Bodo archaeological site.

5-3. Critical Challenge: Create a pictorial map illustrating the archaeological evidence found at Bodo that is most significant in revealing the lives of Aboriginal people of the past.
5-4 Critical Challenge: Create a visual time line that illustrates how the geographical features of the Bodo area have attracted communities, including pre-historic uses, turn of the century settlers, and visitors today.

Grade 7
7-1 Cross Grade Critical Challenge: Critique the archaeological point of view of a display at the Bodo Interpretive Centre that shows how people may have lived in the past.
7-2. Critical Challenge: Judge which geographic factor was the most important determinant for human use of the Bodo site.

7-3. Critical Challenge: Write a statement of significance to support the nomination of the Bodo archaeological site as a National Historic Site.
